FluteThe flute is the highest member of the woodwind family. It plays the melody a lot of the time, as well as flourishes and high fancy parts. Some famous flute players are Sir James Galway, Jeanne Baxstresser, and Herbie Mann.
Alto SaxophoneThe alto saxophone is a medium pitched member of the woodwind family. It plays harmonies and melodies. Some students who start the year on alto saxophone will switch to tenor or baritone saxophone partway through the year. Some famous saxophone players are Eugene Rousseau, Amy Dickson, and Winnipeg's own Allen Harrington!
TrumpetThe trumpet is the highest member of the brass family. It plays the melody a lot of the time, as well as fanfares and harmonies. Some famous trumpet players are Ronald Romm, Alison Balsom, and Louis Armstrong.
EuphoniumThe euphonium is the second lowest member of the brass family. It plays bass lines, harmonies, and sometimes melodies. Some famous euphonium players are David Childs, Wendy Picton, and Steven Mead.

ClarinetThe clarinet is a high to medium pitched member of the woodwind family. It plays the melody some of the time, as well as low harmonies. Some famous clarinetists are Richard Stoltzman, Sabine Meyer, and Benny Goodman.
TromboneThe trombone is a lower sounding member of the brass family. It plays bass lines and tenor harmonies. Some famous trombone players are Joseph Alessi, Megumi Kanda, and Trombone Shorty.
TubaThe tuba is the lowest member of the brass family. It plays bass lines and fanfares. Some famous tuba players are Roger Bobo, Carol Jantsch, and Chuck Daellenbach.
